Important Announcment for 2019-2020 School Year
Dear Advantage Arts Academy Parents,
We want to thank you for your support and interest in enrolling your children at Advantage Arts. Over the past few months, we have been working closely with the city, the state office, and our charter authorizer to ensure we have a successful opening year. One of the greatest challenges this year has been receiving approval from the city to begin construction on our facility. On February 25th, the city approved our plans; however, the delayed approval shortened our construction timeline to the extent that we had serious concerns with our ability to meet key construction deadlines for our first day of school.
In an effort to minimize the impact on families and staff members at the school, we carefully weighed the potential negative impact of this construction delay, and we determined it would be in the school’s best interest to formally request a postponement of our opening year. We are happy to report that the State Charter School Board granted our request, and Advantage Arts Academy will now open in August 2020.
We recognize that many of you were excited about enrolling your children in our school this fall, and we hope you understand that our decision to postpone our opening date was based entirely on our school and our students’ best interests. We also recognize that you may have questions regarding your student. Please note: we did not begin the formal registration process, and we did not request/obtain your student's records from your district. Accordingly, your student’s records remain at their current school, and you do not need to take additional steps in this regard. Furthermore, if you have already been selected in our lottery, your child will remain in our “accepted” student pool and you will not lose your place. Next year, you will be given a chance to register your child or withdraw your child from the school.
We will still hold a parent meeting tonight, March 13th at 6:30 pm at the Herriman Library. If you have any questions or would like additional information, we encourage you to attend this meeting. If you cannot attend, but have questions, please email us at: info@advantagearts.org.
