ContactArts Integration

Drama
Integrating drama into the curriculum engages a student physically, emotionally, and verbally. When participating in drama, a student develops empathy and sensitivity to new perspectives. Drama invites a student into learning about subject through increased involvement and engagement by building comprehension of characters and developing social skills. Drama as a teaching tool uses activities such as acting, improvisation, play-making, and pantomime.

Dance
Building dance and movement into the classroom can help a student develop physically, socially, and emotionally. Physically, a student can learn and improve coordination while dance offers a creative outlet for energy. Socially, a student can learn to work together create a performance and problem-solve with others. Emotionally, a student can channel passion, excitement, and frustration into dance in a physical and visually impactful approach.

Visual Arts
Adding elements of visual arts into school can help a student gain an appreciation regarding the variety of techniques used to create the visual elements surrounding them. From photography to filmmaking, visual arts can serve as a means of capturing and evaluating their environment and creating a universe of the imagination. It can deepen the understanding of a field of study by promoting research and then having the student translate what they have learning into a visual medium.

Music
Listening to and participating in music engages a student both cognitively and physically. The connection of physically using a musical instrument and the stimulation to the brain can help improve coordination, memory, and comprehension skills. Music can be a form of self-expression where a student can reflect and showcase emotions. Music integration could include singing, exposure to musical instruments, and add a level of breadth to the other art disciplines.

We need people who think with the creative side of their brains—people who have played in a band, who have painted…it enhances symbiotic thinking capabilities, not always thinking in the same paradigm, learning how to kick-start a new idea, or how to get a job done better, less expensively.

In just 3 weeks of school, my child is loving the experience. Miss. Popp is amazing, inspiring her students to be better every day. My daughter says she wants to be a writer. Just this morning she told me she is having lots of ideas for her journal they keep at school. I love it!

Art has the role in education of helping children become like themselves instead of more like everyone else.

I believe arts education in music, theater, dance, and the visual arts is one of the most creative ways we have to find the gold that is buried just beneath the surface. They (children) have an enthusiasm for life a spark of creativity, and vivid imaginations that need training – training that prepares them to become confident young men and women.

What a wonderful school and the staff is awesome! My children come home everyday and excitedly tell me about their day and the different teachers they encountered. I’m very impressed with the school lunch and I like how easy communication between the staff and parents is. I am so proud to have my children attend this school. Love you AAA!

Amazing new school! As a former homeschool parent, we couldn't be happier with our first time full day school experience. The teachers are incredible!

The arts are an essential element of education, just like reading, writing, and arithmetic…music, dance, painting, and theater are all keys that unlock profound human understanding and accomplishment.
