Jonathan Kano's Bio
My name is Jonathan Kano, and I have been in Utah Charter Schools for the past 10 years. When I first started in education, I taught in San Juan School District in Southern Utah and at Box Elder School District in Northern Utah. I have taught the 6th-12th grades, been an Assistant Principal, Elementary Principal, and Dean of Students. This will be my second time as an Elementary Principal/Director. I received my bachelor's degree in Education and a master's degree in Education with an ESL endorsement from Utah Valley University, and an administrative license from Utah State University.
I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to be part of Advantage Arts Academy. The Arts have always played a key role in my life. I have always loved singing, dancing, musical theater, plays, and drawing. Whether it is paying for piano lessons for one of my four children, drawing at the kitchen table, or singing at bedtime, the power of the Arts is a part of our home.
I absolutely believe in the effectiveness of the Beverly Taylor Sorenson (BTS) model and the philosophy of integrating components of the Arts into daily lessons. When treating our team of educators as professionals and allowing them to work with your students, using the BTS model, amazing things will happen. Advantage Arts Academy already has an incredible team of teachers, staff, and governing board. I look forward to adding my experience and knowledge to this already thriving school.
I plan on continuous work with the community to create a strong, positive presence for our school. My leadership style is to give all my efforts to build an experience of inclusion for all stakeholders. These efforts will translate in my care for the educational opportunities and safety of each of the students, staff, and families at Advantage Arts Academy. This is just the beginning of an incredible journey, and together, we can watch our students and school grow!
