Emily Harper's Bio
Special Education Teacher
Greetings! My name is Emily Harper and I am thrilled to be teaching and directing the Special Education program at Advantage Arts Academy for the 2020-2021 school year. I was born and raised in Utah, and currently live in Murray with my dog, Hotch. Growing up, I acquired a passion for theater and was cast in plays within my school setting, as well as private live theater. I still try to attend as many live plays as I can! My other interests include reading, traveling with my family, and trying new things. While attending college, I was a Cheerleader on the Westminster Spirit Team and really enjoyed that new experience.
I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Severe Special Education from Westminster College in May of 2020. I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I plan to go back to school to obtain my master's degree after teaching for a few years.
I believe every child is unique and that is what drew me to teaching. I love the challenge of working with different personality types and backgrounds and helping them reach their potential. It is my job as an educator to provide a positive learning environment for students to grow and succeed. I use differentiated instruction to help meet students' needs. I make it a point to include technology in the majority of my lessons and utilize programs that are proven to be beneficial for developmental learning. Children thrive when having access to hands-on activities and help them be curious and initiate questions. I am passionate about arts integration because it allows students to think outside the box and is applicable to every type of learner.
I look forward to working as a team with my students and their parents to ensure this school year is the best it can be!
